MADD Sarnia/Lambton Launches 2009 Project Red Ribbon Campaign

Important holiday season message delivered in Sarnia/Lambton

November 3, 2009 - On Saturday, November 7th, 2009, at 10:00am, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Sarnia/Lambton) launches its annual holiday season “safe and sober driving” campaign – Project Red Ribbon. This year the local chapter unveils the special red ribbons affixed to white crosses at a highly visible location at the intersection of Courtright Line and Brigden Road, St Clair Twp.

At 10:00am, MADD Sarnia/Lambton volunteers, emergency services and members of the public will erect the two hundred and seventy white crosses. The crosses represent the estimated number of victims that will be killed by impaired drivers in Canada from November 1st to December 31st during the 2009 festive season. At approximately 10:45am, an area Minister will perform a dedication of the crosses and bless the families that the crosses represent.

As part of the 2009 Project Red Ribbon Campaign, and in an effort to raise both funds and awareness, a Voluntary Toll will be taking place at several commercial retail locations across the County. From 10:00am to 6:00pm on the 7th of November, as many as 70 Lambton College students and police volunteers will be positioned at entrances to parking lots and grocery stores to collect donations from the public. In turn, each donor will receive a red ribbon and literature on MADD Canada’s Campaign 911 program. All donations will remain local and be used to further MADD Sarnia Lambton Chapter programs.

Special thanks is extended to The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) who will also assist with the tolls by setting up a “Comfort Station” at their London Road branch to provide refreshments for all volunteers.

The Project Red Ribbon Campaign is a tribute to those who have been killed or injured in impaired driving crashes. Attaching a ribbon to your vehicle antenna serves as a constant message to people on the roads to drive safe and sober over the holiday season.
