Police credit 911 callers for pre-empting collision
The Banner - Orangeville

A serious collision was sure to follow had at least two motorists not called 911 Sunday afternoon (April 12), say police.

Concerned drivers reported a black SUV driving “very erratically and dangerously” at about 4:30 p.m.

Police located the suspect vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lane of Highway 89 in Amaranth. The officer was allegedly forced onto the shoulder to avoid a head-on collision, but subsequently stopped a 2003 GMC Yukon.

“There is no doubt a serious motor vehicle collision would have occurred had the citizens not called 911,” Dufferin OPP Sgt. Tom Watt, the responding officer, said in a press release.

A 46-year-old Howick Township man is charged with impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 mls of blood, and driving with liquor readily available.
