MADD Launches New Campaign
VOCM Newfoundland
May 3, 2009
A national campaign has been launched by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. It's called Campaign 911 and urges the public to call 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver on the province's highways or secondary roads. In Newfoundland and Labrador 911 coverage is limited so residents should call the closest RCMP detachment. MADD Canada says roads and highways will continue to get busier as summer sets in. National President Margaret Miller says reporting suspected impaired drivers is a critical way to assist police in getting impaired motorists off our roads. Miller says every emergency call may save a life or prevent an injury. The organization says on average 4 Canadians are killed and 207 are injured every day as a result of impaired driving.
