Team Scotia will be selling hotdogs and hot chocolate at the community fire works display in the Stampede Grounds Halloween night with all proceeds going to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
During the month of November the Williams Lake Scotia Bank is helping MADD with their Red Ribbon fundraising campaign.
“The Williams Lake Chapter of MADD is so grateful to the Scotia Bank for their continued support and willingness to give of their time and energy,” says lakecity MADD Chapter president Pam Herman.
She says representatives from MADD will also be collecting donations at local grocery stores during November and December.
The funds raised help MADD in their campaign to raise public awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving.
“Please pick up a red ribbon and attach it to the antenna of your vehicle to show your support of MADD,” asks Herman.
MADD Canada urges people not to drive impaired, not to ride with an impaired driver and to call 911 if they suspect an impaired driver.
MADD Canada urges everyone to keep the Halloween celebrations safe this weekend by planning ahead for their transportation with a taxi or designated driver, or by staying over night at the party, so that impaired driving doesn’t turn a scary party into a real life nightmare.
“Halloween parties and celebrations will be plentiful this weekend and we’re asking everyone to decide ahead of time how they are getting safely to and from their destinations,” says Margaret Miller, MADD Canada’s national president.
Every day, on average, four Canadians are killed and 207 are injured in impaired driving crashes.
“Every time an impaired driver is taken off the road, that could be a life saved or an injury prevented,” Miller says.
MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) is a national, charitable organization that is committed to stopping impaired driving and supporting the victims of this violent crime. With volunteer-driven groups in more than 100 communities across Canada, MADD Canada aims to offer support services to victims, heighten awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and save lives and prevent injuries on our roads.
