Profile of a Parent involved in MADD
Canada
Robert Solomon
As a researcher, I am familiar with the grim statistics on
alcohol-related death and injury among teenagers and young adults.
However, working with MADD Canada brings home to me on a
personal level the vulnerability of youth and why as a parent
I need to raise and discuss alcohol issues with my children. While
I take considerable teasing at home from my children about my
repeated cautions, they know where I stand on issues and that
I care about them and their friends.
Although parents cannot control what their teenagers do,
they can clearly state their expectations, and support and reinforce
responsible decision making about alcohol.
