Profile of a MADD Canada Teen Volunteer
Ana Yavari, a 17 year old high school student White Oaks Secondary
School in Oakville has been one of MADD Canada’s most enthusiastic
and dedicated volunteers. Her work is having a huge impact on
youth across the region as part of her work with MADD Halton/Peel.
Hear what Ana says about volunteering for MADD -
"During my 10th year of high school, things began to get
wild and a lot of parties were taking place. Some of my friends
decided it might be fun to get drunk and steal their parents’
car for a little whirl. Little did they know that that whirl would
total their car and another parked vehicle on the side of the
road. They did a hit and run and went home thinking that
the whole situation was hilarious. This angered me, becoming a
new driver, that people could be so foolish. So I got involved
with MADD in the Halton region and learned about the hard work
that they put into preventing impaired drivers. It motivated me
to make a public service announcement for their campaign; I hoped
that the creativity of the advertisement could capture the people’s
attention to stop drunk driving, and for a few, it did. It is
very important to volunteer your talents and skills to non-profit
organizations such as MADD. If everyone volunteered a little of
their time, the few people that MADD affects, could turn into
a whole lot more. Help make the world a safer place to live."
