Chapter History

MADD Saint John Chapter was first opened March 18, 1996 with Carol Curwin-Mazerolle as President and Sandra Hanson as Vice President. The Chapter was founded after Carol’s husband was seriously injured by an impaired driving and left with life-long deficits. The Chapter was very active for a couple of years but then closed briefly.

The current Saint John & Area chapter of MADD was started as a result of Johnathan Dunham and Michael Green becoming surviving victims of a crash September 8 1999. Karen Dunham and Denise Green began working in the community to create public awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.

The chapter became official in February of 2003, and it covers the geographical area of Grand Bay-Westfield through to Hampton. The chapter participates in many community events to create public awareness and support victims of impaired driving.
