MADD Metro Vancouver Chapter

YOUTH SERVICES

MADD Canada’s work with youth is critical to our strategy to stop impaired driving. One in every eight deaths  and injuries in road crashes is a teenager. Tragically, road crashes are the number one cause of death of youth age 15 to 19 in Canada and alcohol is involved 45% of the time. Recent statistics tell us that over two out of every five people who die in crashes involving alcohol are 24 years of age and under.

MADD Metro Vancouver encourages the participation of today's young people in the fight against impaired driving. Through various local and national programs we invite them to have a voice in their community. We work with our young people in many ways to promote smart choices and positive behaviour.

MADD Canada’s Multi-Media Assembly Program brings drug and alcohol awareness and risk reduction messaging to the world of education. Each school year, over 1 MILLION students across Canada see the organization’s uniquely Canadian high school production.

Multi-Media Assembly shows have been a key component of MADD Canada’s youth services education and awareness initiatives since 1994. The yearly high school productions communicate directly with young people on their level and in their language and encourage youth to take a closer look at their values and perceptions. MADD Canada’s goal is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries of young Canadians due to alcohol or drug impaired driving.

DAMAGES
Damages is geared towards students in grades 7-12 and is played across a giant screen. It is a bold and intensely emotional story of the lasting effects that one wrong decision can make. The show explores mock and real life stories of the consequenses of impaired driving.  Preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OabrMI_nlV0

Multi media survey results:

MADD Canada had commissioned an evaluation of our Multi-Media Assembly Program with NRG Research Group to ensure that we are meeting our targets for the program. During this past school year, we surveyed students from across the country soon after they saw our presentation with a series of questions and then 3 months later asked them to answer another series of questions.

You can view the Executive Summary of this research on our website at http://www.madd.ca/english/youth/student_research_study.html.
